Today, HIV and sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust launches a new series of free and confidential group sessions for gay and bisexual men living in London. The six-week course, called ‘Replay’, will be a chance for men to meet regularly and discuss issues around relationships and sexual health.
The group is open to all gay and bisexual men who want to explore their relationships with themselves, friends, colleagues, or with sexual partners. The course will use cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing and art therapy to improve members’ confidence and promote positive thinking, with each session focusing on a different theme.
3,010 gay and bisexual men were diagnosed with HIV in 2011, the highest annual figure since the start of the epidemic. Around one in ten gay men in London is living with the virus. As well as exploring wider relationship issues, the ‘Replay’ course will be a chance for men to explore recurring patterns in their sex lives and learn strategies to break cycles of behaviour that might make them unhappy or put them at increased risk from HIV or sexual ill health.
Justin Dickson, Groupwork Project Worker at Terrence Higgins Trust, said: “These groups are an informal and friendly forum where gay and bisexual men can explore their relationships, improve their emotional wellbeing and learn how to look after their and their partners’ sexual health. As well benefitting from the different therapies available, group members will also have the opportunity to meet others in the same situation, and build friendships and support networks. We encourage anyone who is interested in taking part in these sessions to get in touch.”
The ‘Replay’ group will meet every Monday evening from 18th February until 25th March between 6.30pm and 9pm. The sessions will take place at Terrence Higgins Trust’s offices in Kings Cross. The group is open to all gay and bisexual men, irrespective of their HIV status. For more information or to sign up, please call (020) 7812 1619, or email groupworklondon@tht.org.uk.
