Five Porn stars test positive for syphilis

In Los Angeles, five US Adult movie stars have tested positive for syphilis.  Over 1,000 performers have had to cease working while they are all tested and given preventative antibiotics.  It is thought that one male star has continued to have sex on camera with over 100 women and this has lead to all filming being stopped.

This outbreak is likely to lead to renewed calls from health care professionals here and in the US for actors to wear condoms, which can prevent the spread of STIs including syphilis.  This has been a key issue for the industry after one actor became HIV positive in Los Angeles in 2010.

Sex workers are supposed to have regular STD tests, but it has been found that not all of them know what they are being tested for, and syphilis is not always included in their tests.
